ABOUT CINEMATOGRAPHY
To me, cinematography serves the written script, and the unwritten feelings of the characters, embodied by the actors. The camera work is a clever second fiddle to the duo that is director and actors.
I prioritize a clever frame over a pretty one and would rather convey emotion and narrative before creating a pure spectacle. A film's aesthetics, in its broader sense, is beautiful, but not empty. It serves a purpose that is crucial and could be inseparable from the final film.
